What a 4-Year-Old Can Teach Us About Our Words
When Teagan names her superpowers, she repeats the same words her uncle used to describe her. Strong. Brave. Exciting. Kids are always listening. What we say becomes who they believe they are. Your words might be their superpower.

I was watching the new {THE AND} x Little Spoon video on The Skin Deep’s channel today. It’s called Tiny Wisdom, Big Truths: Lessons from a 4-Year-Old, and wow, it’s for sure the kind of thing that stays with you.

Teagan, who is four and full of personality, sits down with her uncle Bob for a {THE AND} conversation packed with cuteness, laughter, and some serious young wisdom. They talk about food, superpowers, memories, and Teagan’s brilliant dance moves. But the part that got me the most was when Bob asked Teagan what three superpowers she would choose.

She pauses for a second, then says with complete confidence:
“Strong, brave, and exciting.”
And here’s the beautiful part. Some of those are the exact same words Bob used earlier to describe her. He told her she’s courageous and explained that it means brave. He told her she’s smart. He told her she’s beautiful and funny.

And guess what? She believed him.
That’s the magic of it. Kids are always listening. They soak up what we say, especially when we say it with love. Bob gave her those words, and she turned them into her superpowers.
It made me think about how easily we forget that the things we say become part of who our kids think they are. If we call them brave, they feel brave. If we call them thoughtful, they carry that with them. Our words aren’t just floating around in the air. They land right in the middle of their self-worth and start building a foundation of self-love.

So maybe the real superpower here isn’t just being kind or smart or helpful. Maybe it’s remembering that our words have the power to shape little hearts in truly big ways.
If you need a smile today or a reminder that the small stuff is actually the big stuff, watch the video.
