Mapping the Science of What Connects Us

I am incredibly proud to introduce our new series: "The Science of Human Connection." We are moving from the "what" to the "how." We’re diving into the neuroscience, the physiology, and the deep-coded biology of emotion.

Mapping the Science of What Connects Us
The Science of Human Connection

For over a decade, my team and I at The Skin Deep have stood on the sidelines of human intimacy. Through {THE AND}, we’ve documented thousands of couples, friends, and strangers as they navigated the rawest parts of their relationships. We’ve seen the magic happen in real-time, the exact moment a wall comes down or a heart opens up.

But lately, I’ve found myself asking a deeper question.

As AI begins to reshape how we interact with the world and each other, the "magic" of being human is being put to the test. We are entering an era where machines can simulate empathy, but they cannot experience it. This shift sparked a new hunger in us: We don't just want to witness connection anymore; we want to understand its blueprint.

The Evolution: A New Series

I am incredibly proud to introduce our new series: "The Science of Human Connection." We are moving from the "what" to the "how." We’re diving into the neuroscience, the physiology, and the deep-coded biology of emotion. What is actually happening in our brains when we feel seen? How do our bodies synchronize when we are in sync?

Our first deep dive features the Consortium for Interacting Minds at Dartmouth University. They are currently utilizing the massive dataset of human interaction we’ve built through {THE AND} to answer questions that have, until now, felt unquantifiable.

A Personal Note from the Journey

Watching this footage through the lens of a scientist has been a revelation for me. For years, I looked at a frame and saw a "beautiful moment." Now, I’m beginning to sense the neurological dance behind it. It hasn't made the connection feel any less "magical," it’s actually made it feel more miraculous. Understanding the complexity of what it takes for two humans to truly "click" makes me realize just how vital, and how biological, our need for one another really is.

Join the Experiment

This isn't just a video series; it’s a community-led exploration. We are mapping this territory in real-time, and we want you to help us hold the compass.

Where should we go next? What part of the human experience do you want us to put under the microscope? Whether it’s the chemistry of heartbreak, the biology of trust, or the mechanics of loneliness, we want to hear your thoughts.

Drop a comment or email us with the questions you want us to ask. Let’s figure out what makes us us, together.
